Mindfulness
Similarly to walking, mindfulness exercises reduce the activity of the amygdala.
Mindfulness exercises can be anything that makes you focus on your physical senses - touch, hearing, vision, taste, smell, etc.
The most important part is not to try to be "perfect" at it without your mind wandering. Your mind will wander, try your best to notice when it does and bring yourself back to noticing your physical sensations.
Some examples of mindfulness exercises:
1. Body scan
Scan your body top to bottom, focus intently on a body part one by one, then try to relax it. It can go something like this - forehead, eyes, face, throat, shoulders, chest, abdomen, thighs, knees, calves, feet
2. Feel your weight
While sitting, feel your weight on the surface that you are sitting on and focus on the points that are touching the surface.
3. Feel your feet
While sitting with your feet planted on the floor, feel the weight of your feet on the floor and focus on the points that are touching the floor.
4. Feel your breath
Feel your chest or abdomen expand as you breathe in. Then feel your chest or abdomen contract as you breathe out.
5. Hearing
Focus intently on a sound that you hear, try to drown out all the other noises and only hear that single sound.
6. Touching
Touch something with your fingertips and feel its temperature and texture.
